The aim of this paper is to show that networking is an essential strategy for survival and influence within the globalised world system during the Late Medieval period. We will use an interdisciplinary approach to explore the legacy of the Palaiologan dynasty (1261-1453) in strategic networking and examine its implications for subsequent historical developments. By investigating the political, economic, military, cultural, and religious connections between Byzantium and key players in the world system, we will identify essential components of the Palaiologan emperors' strategic networking and global outreach. This analysis will reveal an intriguing chapter on Byzantine international relations and their impact on the unfolding future of Byzantium and the broader geopolitical landscape. Additionally, we will examine the influential role of religion, particularly Orthodox Christianity and its Church, in shaping the emperors' networking and foreign policy strategies. This aspect is crucial for understanding the comprehensive and multifaceted nature of the networking strategies employed by the Palaiologan dynasty, as it highlights the influence of religion on geopolitical decision-making.
