Book Presentation: Mélanges Jannic Durand

Mélanges Jannic Durand, ed. Catherine Jolivet-Lévy, Anne Dion-Tenenbaum, Ioanna Rapti (Travaux et Mémoires 30/1). Paris 2025. This volume celebrates the long institutional career and the outstanding scholarly production of Jannic Durand. Four years after he retired from the département des Objets d’art at the Louvre Museum in August 2022, and nearly forty years after the seminal exhibition Byzance dans les collections publiques françaises, his colleagues and former students contributed to a volume of Mélanges published in Travaux & Mémoires (vol. 30/1). This volume brings together fifty-four contributions — in French, English, and Italian — related to Jannic’s areas of research, encompassing the late antique and medieval Mediterranean, Early Modern Europe, fine arts and iconography, history of artworks and collections, relics and reliquaries, and interactions between various areas of the Christian East and the Latin West. These contributions testify to the influence of Jannic’s work and constitute a tribute to the esteem in which he is held by the international scholarly community, and to the lasting friendships forged in France and abroad. The presentation of the volume at the opening day of the Congress is an additional tribute to Jannic’s commitment to the AIEB and to his efforts to value the fields of Art History and Heritage in the Congress.
