Inequalities in Punishments for Sexual Crimes and Adultery in Byzantium

I will examine some inequalities that we come across in punishments referring to offences and crimes within the family. I will focus on sexual crimes and adultery. What is the evolution of punishments for these crimes? What are the inequalities that occur? Do gender or social-economic factors play a role in the punishment of such crimes? Do we see a shift in the evolution of punishments and an attempt to tackle the inequalities? How did Roman law (including later Roman law) and Canon law deal with these crimes?
