A Bilingual Gospel of Luke: From Greek to Arabic in the Paris BNF, suppl. gr. 911
Christian HøgelHS 7
The manuscript Paris BNF, suppl. gr. 911, dated in its colophon to the year 1043 CE, is a bilingual Gospel of Luke, with facing Greek and Arabic text. The manuscript originates from Southern Italy/Sicily, and its paratexts, mainly in Arabic, reflect its function as tool to ease the reading of the original Greek gospel for a reader of Arabic. A small text in Arabic on the Gospel of Luke also provides a reference to the original composition in Greek. In this way the manuscript reflects a retention of attachment and veneration of the text in its original.
